Presents the results of research carried out to study the characterisation of smoke leakage through vertical gaps in smoke curtains, from a smoky hot gas layer contained within a compartment formed by the smoke curtains. Such leakage could lead to dangerous conditions in areas adjoining a smoke compartment, with the possible formation of a hot gas layer, or even smoke logging, in designated safe areas.
