La Norma fornisce definizioni e procedure di misura per le proprietà di diverse lunghezze d'onda e larghezze spettrali di uno spettro ottico associato con un sottosistema di comunicazione in fibra ottica, un trasmettitore ottico o altre sorgenti di luce usate nell'esercizio o nella prova di sottosistemi di comunicazione. La presente edizione costituisce una revisione tecnica della precedente, con cambiamenti che tengono conto delle nuove tecnologie laser. La Norma in oggetto sostituisce completamente la Norma CEI EN 61280-1-3:1999-10, che rimane applicabile fino al 01-05-2013.
Questa Norma viene pubblicata dal CEI nella sola lingua inglese in quanto particolarmente mirata a settori specialistici.
