Preface

A new format of questions was introduced from September 2006 for the MRCOG part 2, this new method of examination being called extended matching questions (EMQs). The new EMQ paper has 40 questions and constitutes 15 per cent of the total score in the part 2 MRCOG written examination. This is believed to be a fairer assessment compared with other examination techniques.

This book is aimed to familiarise candidates with the new method of examination and covers most topics in obstetrics, gynaecology and related subjects. There are several themes with four or five clinical scenarios in each theme. Practice in this technique of examination is essential; an hour is allowed to answer the 40 EMQs. This method is likely to replace all multiple choice questions in future examination.
