This book is a collection of surveys from these laboratories, with details of the performance achieved at the authors' sites and at further sites world-wide. lt contains much material not previously available, including a review of Russian work on mode competition not formerly published in English, and a survey of recently- developed methods for the transmission of microwave energy at high power levels. Oscillators using both closed resonators and quasi-optical techniques are described in detail, with an outline of the principles of backward-wave oscillators. Chapters are included on the design of electron guns, microwave windows and methods for separation of the electron beam and the high-frequency energy.
