This Offshore Standard (OS) is based on the Recommended Practice for Integrated Software-Dependent Systems (DNV-RPD201). The RP is in turn based on best practices from various automotive, aerospace and industries with a need for highly reliable and safe software and software-dependent systems.
Sources are documented in the RP.
DNV Research & Innovation has published research on the need expressed by the industry for such improvements (SMICT).
Learning from the first instances of the RP use, customers have been requesting a Class Notation regime.
