The scope for additional class notations Bow loading and STL (submerged turret loading system) shall add a level of safety to the arrangements utilised for the transfer of crude oil from offshore loading terminals to the ship. Ship manoeuvrability and positioning, special piping arrangements, strong points for mooring and consideration of hazardous areas are included in the design for this notation.

Application

The additional class notations Bow loading and STL (submerged turret loading system) applies to ships having a bow loading arrangement that satisfies the requirements of this section. Ships shall be fitted with a controllable pitch propeller and side thrusters of sufficient power for adequate manoeuvrability and positioning of the ship during offshore loading operations. When a dynamic positioning system is installed, this shall include monitoring and self-check facilities equivalent to additional class notation DYNPOS(AUT). Ships having a bow loading arrangement satisfying the requirements of this section may be assigned the additional class notation Bow loading or STL.
