PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This document defines the minimum technical specification for a 1090 MHz Extended Squitter ADS-B Surveillance System. For brevity, this is referred to as the “ADS-B System” throughout this document.
Within the framework of this document the ADS-B System is a component of an ATS surveillance system supporting the following ATC separation minima to aircraft equipped with cooperative surveillance avionics:
• 5.0 NM: between aircraft in applicable airspaces
• 3.0 NM: between aircraft in applicable airspaces
as defined ESASSP [Ref Doc 3] and in the EUROCAE ED-126 [Ref Doc 8] and EUROCAE ED-161 [Ref Doc 39].
In addition, the ADS-B System as specified in this document will also be capable of supporting airport surface operations in line with the ADS-B-APT application, as defined in the EUROCAE ED-163 [Ref Doc 38].
The ADS-B System may also be used to support other applications (such as Aircraft Performance Monitoring) and any requirements beyond the minimum specified for surveillance would need to be separately clarified by those users (e.g., fields marked as optional would be stated as conditional or mandatory by those applications).
Additional capabilities such as Traffic Information Service – Broadcast (TIS-B), ADS-B re-broadcast (ADS-R), multilateration and/or a data logging function are not considered in this document.
The design of the deployed system will need to be made cognisant of the operational context in which it will operate, and the system will also be assessed in relation to applicable surveillance service data performance requirements.
