. 1. Scope

This test method shall be used to determine the resistance to tearing of trim materials, by teats on standard teat pieces in which tearing has been initiated by s single cut in the test piece. The method is applicable. to leathercloths, textiles, plastic films, felts etc. On woven and knitted fabrics (coated or uncoated) the test exerts a tearing force on the transverse threads of the test piece. For tests where the longitudinal axis of the test piece is in the warp or-wales direction of the test material therefore, it is the weft or courses threads that will be torn. Conversely, where the longitudinal axis of the test pieces is in the weft or courses direction of the test material, the warp or wales threads will be torn during the test.
