Material.

This specification covers arc and laser brazing joints of thin-walled components and sheet steel grades EN 10263-2, GMW2, QS 101000, QS 101500, QS 1017T0, QS 102500, QS 131500, QS 131700 and weldable malleable cast irons, GMW1, or equivalent standardized materials. Furthermore this test specification applies to standardized stainless steels:

To EN 10088-2:

X6Cr17, Material No. 1.4016,

X6CrMo17-1, Material No. 1.4113,

X5CrNi18-10, Material No. 1.4301

X3CrTi17, Material No. 1.4510

X3CrNb17, Material No. 1.4511

X2CrTi12, Material No. 1.4512

X6CrNiTi18-10, Material No. 1.4541

X6CrNiNb18-10, Material No. 1.4550

as well as to other standardized stainless steels (e.g. X8CrNiTi18-10, Material No. 1.4878, X15CrNiSi20-12, Material No. 1.4828 both EN 10095, used in the area of the exhaust system). The brazing solder shall be matched to the relevant application.

Additional this specification is valid for high strength steels according EN 10268, EN 10149-1, GMW3032 and GMW3399.

Material combinations with carbon equivalent [Mass - %]

W = C + Si/30 + Mn/20 + 2P + 4S less than or equal to 0.24 %

alternatively

CEV = C + Mn/6 + (Cr+Mo+V)/5 + (Ni+Cu)/6 less than or equal to 0.45 %

a separate release shall be required.

Brazings on brazable metallic coated steel sheets has also to fulfill this specification.

This specification is also applicable for brazable aluminium materials.

The following are acceptable as coatings:

Zinc, copper and their alloys with coating thicknesses of 30 µm max. on each or both sides (aluminum plated 50 µm). Brazing on parts with organic or non-metallic coatings shall be released in individual case by PE ME Laboratories.

Joint Shapes.

The brazing can be either as butt, fillet or flanged joints.

Brazing Processes.

The following brazing methods can be used:

Electric Brazing.

Inert Arc Brazing.

Metal Gas shielded Arc Brazing.

• Metal inert gas brazing (MIG)

• Metal active gas brazing (MAG)

• Metal active gas brazing with cored wire electrodes

• Metal inert gas brazing with cored wire electrodes

Tungsten-protective Gas Brazing.

• Tungsten-inert gas brazing (TIG)

• (Tungsten)-plasma brazing

Laser Brazing.

CO2 (Gas-) Laser.
