6 types of requirement are specified dependent upon the severity of service operation of the component.
Type A1: is applicable to surface finishes used on the external body and on external components in areas of exceptionally severe service operations e. g. below the belt line.
Type A2: is applicable to surface finishes used on the external body and on external components in areas of severe service operations e. g. above the belt line.
Type A3: is applicable to surface finishes used on external components in areas of normal service operations.
Type B1: is applicable to surface finishes used on internal body parts and components in areas of exceptionally severe service operation
Type B2: is applicable to surface finishes used on internal body parts and components in areas of severe service operation.
Type B3: is applicable to surface finishes used on internal components in areas of normal service operation.
This specification does not cover performance requirement for : -
Organic coatings on highly stressed exterior parts (see EDS-T-7011).
Organic coatings on chassis components
Organic coatings on decorative metallic parts
Powder coat finish

This specification covers the performance requirements for applied organic surface finishes on automobile body parts and components.
