This specification defines the pretreatment, paint materials and processing required to paint/coat aluminum wheels and aluminum trim for wheels. Coating/Paint durability requirements are also included. This specification applies for all painted cast and forged aluminum wheels. This specification also applies for painted or roll-coated aluminum used for wheel trim. This specification does not apply to electroplated parts. This specification applies to all surfaces that are designed on the engineering part drawing to meet these requirements.

Parts produced to meet these requirements have been validated to meet 3-5 years of equivalent/accelerated corrosion testing on durability vehicles at GM's Milford Proving Ground, and to meet a 3-year field warranty for cosmetic corrosion.
