This specification describes sheet-form vibration damping material. The material may be of various constructions which encompass both extensional and constrained layer damping configurations. The material must be mold resistant and nonwater absorbing. One surface shall be either self-adhesive or adhesive coated and protected with a release liner. The adhesive surface must be smooth so as to achieve sufficient contact with the body panel to which it is applied. This material is intended for roof (Type I) or nonroof (Type II) applications.
Material Type and Grade. Material designation must include type and grade. If type is not specified, Type I is assumed.
Material Types.
Type I. For interior use, primarily for roof vibration control. Suitable for inverted applications on warm/hot panels, i.e. roof.
Type II. For interior or exterior use in non-inverted applications wher good conformability to contoured panels is a requirement.
