Material Description. This standard describes the surface appearance and quality requirements for exterior painted parts. The requirements are described in terms of appearance attributes and surface blemishes for each zone within a part. The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that the level of final finish on GM vehicles meets or exceeds the level expected by our customers. This standard applies to both finished parts produced by suppliers and those topcoated in GM assembly plants.
Typical Application. Painted Parts supplied to GM.
Remarks. A panel is defined as a portion of a surface which can be characterized as bound by an edge of a part and a major angle or geometric shift of a part (i.e. the ear of a fascia). A surface is defined as bound by the edges of the part and drawing-defined boundaries of zones. A panel is considered a portion of a surface.
