This standard covers cold rolled carbon steel sheet which has been terne-alloy coated on both sides by a hot-dip process. The product is commonly known as "long teme sheet" and should not be confused with "short terne plate" which is black plate. The terne coating is an alloy of lead and tin.

More specific definition of the base metal (coil or cut length; commercial quality, drawing quality or drawing quality special killed; thickness; dimensional tolerances; etc) is intended to be specified by supplement to each specification.
