1 SCOPE.

1.1 This document describes a procedure for determinging the immunity of 12 V automotive electrical/electronic devices intended for vehicle use to overvoltage and reverse polarity voltage on the power inputs to the device. This procedure Will determine the ability of the device to operate as designed (set 1.2) during the application of a positive overvoltage (26 V) that would be experienced during a boosted jump start. It also will determine the ability of the device to resist damage during the application of a negative battery voltage as would be experienced if during a jump start or vehicle service the battery terminals were reversed.
