This specification describes the performance requirements of a beaded adhesive/sealant used to bond inner door water deflectors. The adhesive/sealant is applied to the deflector film at the deflector source. The bonded deflector must provide an effective barrier to water. Adhesive systems which meet the requirements of this specification may be used with or without locator pins.

Material Description. The adhesive/sealant shall have good adhesion to door water deflector materials and inner door paint systems. These paint systems can include basecoat/clearcoat, basecoat only, basecoat with clearcoat overspray, primer surfacer only, primer surfacer with either or both basecoat and clearcoat overspray or ELPO.

Typical Application. The deflectors are intended for doors that are not flat and have narrow bond areas. In addition, these deflectors may encounter interference with the various door accessories like sear belt attachments, wire harnesses, door hardware etc. The requirements are usually met with a bead of hot melt (foamed or unfoamed) or butyl based adhesive.
