Purpose. To determine whether a vehicle's safety belt system meets the functional operation and design requirements of:
• Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 208 (FMVSS 208).
• Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 208 (CMVSS 208).
Foreword. If vehicle is equipped with air bags, see GMW14614 for equipment evaluation. Other related CMVSS 208 and FMVSS 208 requirements are found in GMW14614.
Applicability. Passenger cars, trucks, buses, and multipurpose passenger vehicles equipped with safety belt systems manufactured on or after September 1, 1991. Applicable to vehicle's having a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 4545 kg (10 000 lb) or less.
Although CMVSS 208 and FMVSS 208 requirements may apply, this specification was not written to evaluate the following (see FMVSS 208 for definitions):
• Forward Control Vehicles
• Open-Body Type Vehicles
• Vehicles Outfitted for Handicap Use
