This standard covers the requirements for elastomeric ball joint boots, for service – free ball and socket joints used in steering and suspension assemblies.
Material Description. Materials covered by this specification are divided into three types:
Type A. Polychloroprene (CR) with 5% by mass maximum. Nitrile Rubber (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Copolymer (NBR); for normal use on passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles.
Type B. Polyurethane (PU) Elastomer; for use in arduous conditions, such as heavy commercial vehicles.
Type C. Drawing defined (e.g., using SAE J200 or ASTM D2000 line callout).
