Purpose.
The purpose is to determine if the front and rear bumper systems protect the vehicle when subject to the impact testing defined in:
a. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Regulation US 49 CFR Part 581, as amended in the Federal Register, September 23, 1983 (October 1, 2003).
b. Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 215 (CMVSS 215) as amended in the Canada Gazette, December 26, 1979 (September 18, 1996).
c. Korea Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 93 (KMVSS 93) as amended December 30, 1995 (February 25, 2003).
Foreword.
This procedure establishes requirements for impact resistance of a vehicle in the low speed front and rear collisions. The vehicle is impacted with a series of pendulum barrier impacts prescribed in the Canadian, Korean, and US bumper regulations. The vehicle is then be evaluated to the criteria defined in the Canadian, Korean, and US bumper regulations to determine if the vehicle is in compliance.
Applicability.
This applies to vehicles classified as passenger motor vehicles in US 49 CFR Part 571. It excludes multipurpose passenger vehicles.
