This specification covers the requirements for primer/basecoat/clearcoat aftermarket repair systems used for GM warranty work. These systems are air dried or forced-air dried at 82°C (180°F) or less. They are designed to repair Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Basecoat/Clearcoat (BC/CC) systems but are of different formulations and/or chemistries than typical OEM products.
The primer, basecoat and clearcoat are two-component materials of varying chemistries. They are typically higher in volatile organic compounds (VOC) than OEM systems and must comply with Local, State, and Federal Emission Regulations.
Primers, basecoats and clearcoats approved to this specification are a System and not interchangeable. Only the specified Anticorrosion Primer, Surfacer, BC/CC systems tested and approved to this specification can be used for GM warranty work.
