Purpose/Material Description.

This standard describes material types of unfilled, heat stabilized, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) terpolymer which are used in injection or blow molded components. Type 1 through Type 4 are Ultraviolet (UV) stabilized for molded-in-color interior components.

Types.

The classification into groups is according to the different usages as described in Table 3.

Symbols.

The material abbreviation according to ISO 11469 is >ABS<.

Applicability.

Typical applications include mold in color, painted, or chrome plated interior trim, and painted or chrome plated exterior trim.

Paintability.

Plastics used for painted applications are required to meet Paint Performance Requirements for New Plastic Materials per GMW16172. Additionally, painted plastic parts are required to meet Painted Plastic Parts Performance Requirements per GMW14797.
