This publication is for the convenience of homebuilders, design professionals, building officials and others involved in the design and construction of detached one- and two-family dwellings in conformance with the 2006 edition of the International Building Code® (IBC®). The material applies to those communities or states that utilize the IBC rather than the International Residential Code® (IRC®) for construction of such residential occupancies. Although many similarities exist between the two codes, and both are dedicated to safeguarding the public health, safety and welfare, there are differences inherent in the development of two separate documents with varying scope and application.
