This standard specifies hexagon nut and washer assemblies for automobiles (herein referred to as nut assemblies). Each nut assembly consists of a washer fitted to a nut by such means as staking the nut collar, to prevent the washer from separating from the nut.
Note:
The term nut is applied when only the hexagon nut of the nut assembly is referred to. When only the washer is referred to, it is designated by type as follows; conical spring washer, plain washer, or wave spring washer. The term washer is applied when all types are referred to collectively.
