This standard specifies the hexagon nut and washer assemblies (hereafter referred to as “assembled nuts”) for use on automobiles.

After the washer is assembled onto the nut body, an assembled nut functions to prevent the washer falling off the nut body by caulking the collar portion of the nut body.

Note In this standard, the term “nut body” is used when referring only to the hexagon nut of an assembled nut. The term “conical spring washer”, “plain washer”, or “waved spring washer” is used when referring to only the washer, depending on the type. When various types of washers are collectively referred to, they are simply called “washers”.
