British Defence Standards
This standard defines the MOD requirement for TD that shall be applied to all product procurement using a recognised methodology. It provides a contractible stance, and all Contractors shall be contracted in line with this requirement. The detailed contractual requirements shall be tailored to the specific needs of each project.
The TD activities described by this standard relate to all phases of the Concept, Assessment, Demonstration, Manufacture, In-service, Disposal/Termination (CADMID/T) cycle with the aim of providing a capability by fielding a product with an optimized support system and sustaining these throughout the product system life cycle to accommodate:
a) In-service feedback,
b) Support policy/usage changes,
c) Design upgrades and technology insertions,
d) Changes in operational use,
e) Changes in support strategy,
f) Changes to conform to new legislation or environmental requirements,
g) Continuation of influencing design for support,
Note: Contractual arrangements should be written to allow the flexibility to encompass the points above.
TD for the MOD is predominately created in two forms, both digital. These tend to be MS Office to a standard or specification agreed by the project or to S1000D. The output from this source material can range from paper to Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP) deliverables.
These rules are for S1000D based data modules and other supporting information delivered in an IETP or paper publication.
The BR detailed cover the whole scope of Figure 1 and are to be tailored and applied within MOD S1000D 4.1 programs as agreed with the Authority Delivery Team (DT).
The BR will be reviewed/updated annually. If the reader identifies any additional requirements or improvements, contact the Project TD Lead. In the event of any conflict between these BR and S1000D, consult the Project TD Lead for clarification.
