INTRODUCTION
This Part of the Defence Standard has been issued to provide requirements and guidance for the certification of UK Military Large Aeroplanes for operation in all classes of airspace.
In 1983, the Defence Standard 00-970 Issue 1 was reviewed and re-written as Issue 2 to provide the content in a three column format and also change the format of the standard from two volumes to fifteen parts. Both issues remained extant until 1994 when issue 1 was withdrawn. Within Issue 2, Part 5, was identified as the standard for large aeroplanes but was never published, with all fixed wing requirements residing in Part 1. Due to the complex requirements of modern aeroplanes a decision was made in 2012 to publish Part 5 as the standard for large aeroplanes.
This standard has been developed in full consideration of European civil certification requirements to ensure that the design of new aeroplanes, and where relevant modifications, under this standard will comply with a Certification Basis drawn from European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) CS25 together with UK military requirements. Where there are no identified military specific certification requirements, the extant CS25 requirement is specified. Where military requirements (denoted UK) are specified, these shall be included in the Type Certification Basis (TCB) when that TCB is agreed in accordance with the MRP.
Def Stan 00-970 comprises:
Part 0 Procedure for Use, Guidance and Definitions

Part 5 Large Type Aircraft Part 7 Rotorcraft
Part 9 Remotely Piloted Air Systems (RPAS)
