This Defence Standard defines the requirement for modular furniture, security boxes, operators chairs and associated equipment for accommodation and medical areas in HM Surface Ships and Submarines and when specified in the contract for RFAs, RMAS craft, and other vessels where appropriate. 

Many items of furniture and associated equipment are now classed as obsolete and are retained as historical or inactive records. They have been retained in this Defence Standard for information purposes and identified in italic text.
