a) This Defence Standard (Def Stan) covers the material and installation requirements for decorative and quick release linings in Submarines & Surface Ships that are to be used in the following spaces:

1) Medical and Dental Organizations;

2) Accommodation;

3) Toilets, Urinals, Bathrooms and Washing Facilities;

4) Galleys and Associated Spaces.

b) This Def Stan also covers material and installation requirements for non-load bearing composite bulkhead systems which are to be used as partitions to form boundaries for cabins, public rooms, messes, offices, passageways etc.

c) Composite bulkhead systems can be used as fire barriers in accordance with Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) requirements but shall not be used where watertight or gastight integrity is required. If watertight or gastight integrity is required, the bulkheads should be part of the ships structure and are not covered under this standard.
