a) This Defence Standard 02-157 Part 1 covers the general requirements for various deck covering materials to be laid in the appropriate compartments in HM Surface Ships and Submarines on steel, aluminium or Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) surfaces.

b) It is to be read in conjunction with Def Stan 02-157 Part 2, Deck Preparation and Laying Procedures.

c) The deck coverings detailed in this Defence Standard are the only ones approved for use on HM Ships and Submarines.

d) These requirements do not apply to hydrofoils or hovercraft.
