This specification defines the requirement for polyester roundslings, seamless tube used as a single lifting strop or with multiple leg sling assemblies and associated fittings. Tests and procedures to verify these characteristics are also stated. 

Polyester roundslings may be used for any type of lift previously carried out by wire, rope, or chain slings. Ammunition can be lifted except when the item is likely to be lifted 'bare' ie its EED is accessible such as the 4.5 MK 8 ammunition. Handling of ammunition must be conducted in accordance with BR862. 

In addition, it states the construction, identification and marking of these slings. The roundslings and associated fittings are for use by surface ships, shore establishments and submarines.
