This Def Stan specifies the requirements for cleaning to Grade B, C and D standards of items, components and equipment for fluid systems.
The cleaning requirements for Grade A (Nuclear Systems) are specified in DGS PS 5104.
The cleaning requirements for Oxygen Clean Standards are specified in Def Stan 02-372.
The cleaning requirements for compressed air systems are specified in Def Stan 02-373.
This Def Stan applies only to those surfaces of the items, components and equipment which are in contact with the system fluid and does not apply to cleaning between manufacturing stages.
This Def Stan applies to submarines, surface ships and shore-based facilities during build, refit, and manufacture activities.
The requirements for preservation and packaging are provided in Def Stan 81-041.
