This NES specifies the requirements for cleaning to Grade ‘B', 'C' and ‘D' standards of items, components and equipment for fluid systems.

Note: The cleaning requirements for Grade 'A' (Nuclear Systems) are specified in DGS/PS/5 104.

The cleaning requirements for Oxygen Clean Standards (OX) are specified in NES 372.

The cleaning requirements for compressed air systems are given in NES 373.

This NES applies only to those surfaces of the items, components and equipments which are in contact with the system fluid and does not apply to cleaning between manufacturing stages.

This NES applies to submarines, surface ships and shore-based facilities during build, refit and manufacture.

The requirements for preservation and packaging are given in NES 724.
