This NES gives guidance on the particular techniques to be adopted when wiring ship and weapon electro technical equipment with thin wall insulated (TWI), limited fire hazard (LFH) equipment wire to DEF Stan 61-12 Part 18 and when installing TWI, LFH electric cables to NES 525 Issue 3 or DEF STAN 61-12 Part 25 in Surface Ships and Submarines.

This NES assumes that proven traditional techniques of wiring and terminating already established will continue in addition to the specific techniques defined herein and it should be noted that wires to DEF STAN 61-21 Part 18 are not suitable for solder less wrapped connections.

The reason for these additional techniques being required is that wires presently available to DEF STAN 61-12 Part 18 are much stiffer and more springy than earlier wires.
