This Part of the Standard specifies requirements for providing, selecting and installing equipment and facilities for the collection, treatment, storage and disposal of garbage (see clause 0401b), in Surface Ships.

The requirements for installing garbage disposal arrangements covered by the NES are to be applied in conjunction with the general policy for providing such arrangements as laid down in NES 720.

It does NOT cover the requirements for equipment installed for the destruction of CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS, which are include in NES 731.
