This Defence Standard advises on generic statistical methods for quality assurance in the context of munitions testing. It deals with the statistical interpretation of data particularly for the acceptance inspection of discrete items i.e. munitions (including sub-assemblies or complete systems) supplied in lots, whether by acceptance sampling in isolation or when acceptance sampling is supported by statistical process control during manufacture and processing. Acceptance sampling methods can be applied at any stage of the life of an item where confirmation or reconfirmation of acceptability is required. References to existing Defence, British, or International Standards are provided.

The sampling of bulk materials is not addressed in this Defence Standard. Specialist advice on this should be sought where necessary.
