This Defence Standard advises on generic statistical method for use in proof i.e. the functional testing of munitions. It deals with the acceptance inspection of discrete items i.e. munitions (including sub-assemblies or complete systems) supplied in lots. The methods can be applied at any stage of the life of an item where confirmation or reconfirmation of acceptability is required. References to existing Defence, British, or International Standards are provided. Also described are relevant standards that are currently planned or under development. Present gaps in the standards literature that could, if filled, provide economics in proof are also identified. Some software to support statistical methods that has been developed for the Defence Ordnance Safety Group (DOSG) is described.
The sampling of bulk materials is not addressed in this Defence Standard. Specialist advice on this should be sought where necessary.
