This standard defines a formal language for the unambiguous specification for the definition/interpretation of the content of digital data messages. The language is general and is not based on any particular data transmission system.

This standard was generated from the T45 DTS Message Construction Standard (MCS) [9].

It should be noted that messages generated by some Combat System sub-systems with CSH interfaces conform to Def-Stan 21-26 Part 1 [7] and Def-Stan 21-28 [6] and are not compatible with this standard. The definition of those ‘CSH' messages is therefore beyond the scope of this standard and reference must be made to Def-Stan 21-28 [6]. However, although the details within a CSH message may not be in accordance with this standard, a CSH message can be transferred across the DTS as a "Hybrid Message" using encapsulation (by a DTS Gateway) as described in Annex D.

This standard is mandatory for all message transfers on the DTS.

Purpose

The purpose of this Standard is to specify the rules to be followed in constructing messages for exchange of data on any RN platform.
