Land Vehicles with open architecture and soft skin pose a substantial risk of non-compliance regarding EMC and EMF Safety (RADHAZ) as a result of the lack of screening from the vehicle to the internal equipment.
This Def Stan has been broken into several relevant sections which are as follows:
a) Equipment and sub-system testing – EMC
b) Land System and Vehicle verification and testing – EMC
c) RADHAZ survey
The following sections (1 & 2) of this Def Stan focus on ensuring the Land Vehicle maintains full operability within its own EME and the ambient EME which the Land Vehicle will be exposed to throughout different stages of operation. Section 3 is EMF Safety (RADHAZ).
Through ensuring vehicle control and operability is maintained, this Def Stan protects onboard personnel, surrounding personnel, pedestrians, and equipment. This Defence Standard focusses on the protection of all vehicle occupants.
This Def Stan focusses on the operability of Land Vehicles and does not look at Man Portable/Man-Worn Equipment. However, if known, the impact of personnel worn/portable equipment that is within the ambient EME should be considered by the project team. Def Stan 589-411 Part 4, Annex B for Man-Portable/Man-Worn Equipment should be referenced.
Military Equipment is not exempt from 2014/30/EU EMC Directive or SI 2016 No. 1091 EMC Regulations 2016 and must be CE/UKCA marked in order to declare conformity of EMC.
Refer to Figure 1 for an illustrated representation of the 2014/30/EU declaration of conformity process for EMC.
