This Defence Standard outlines design guidelines for military Armoured Fighting Vehicles, their derivatives and aspects of associated towed equipment. It is complementary to Armoured Fighting Vehicle procurement Requirement Documents and the Design Guidelines for Military Logistics Vehicles Defence Standard 23-6. It is the responsibility of the user of this Standard to ensure that all relevant standards, regulations and guidelines are adhered to.

This Standard covers all types of Armoured Fighting Vehicles; it includes both tracked and wheeled variants. The requirements, guidelines and evaluation sections are applicable to both tracked and wheeled vehicles unless specified otherwise. Note that this Standard does not cover motorcycles or quad bikes.

Where the Requirements, Guidance or Evaluation for Armoured Fighting Vehicles are identical to those for Logistic Vehicles then this Defence Standard will refer to the appropriate section of Def Stan 23-6. Any additional or unique requirements and guidance applicable to Armoured Fighting Vehicles will be specified within this Defence Standard.

This Defence Standard is intended to assist the procurement of military vehicles for operating both in UK and other countries.
