This standard addresses modelling and simulation as applied to the marine power systems community. A glossary of terms is defined to facilitate unambiguous expression of modelling standards. A system of standards is then defined and described in detail using that terminology. The purpose of this modelling standard is to provide a formal framework which those who acquire models can use to describe the requirements of those models succinctly and unambiguously.

This framework is not intended to be applicable just to a particular modelling environment, but should be applicable to all such environments. Whilst in principle this modelling standard can be applied to any application area, it is primarily applicable to the marine electrical power systems modelling community.
