This Defence Standard specifies requirements for two types of degreasing compound.

Type A consists of a mixture of sodium metasilicate and sodium hydroxide which, when dissolved in water, may be used for cleaning and degreasing metal components.

Type C consists of a mixture of sodium metasilicate and sodium carbonate which, when dissolved in water, may be used for degreasing metals.
