British Defence Standards
This Standard relates to an air-drying oleroresinous varnish for the protection of suitable pretreated surfaces of steel, aluminum, tinplate and zinc alloys other than brass. It is not recommended for application to brass. The varnish is normally tined blue but clear and other colors are permitted.
The viscosity of the varnish may be adjusted by the addition of xylene to facilitate application by spraying or dipping.
The designation ‘Type QX' indicates that the material is of a quality suitable for application where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, its compatibility with all explosive in all environments has not bee established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Director, Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment, Waltham Abbey.
