This Standard specifies both the materials and the manufacturing requirements for Grade I and II cases used for the packaging of Service equipment up to 150kg or 75kg mass maximum respectively.

It includes the use of either plywood, medium density fibreboard (MDF) or oriented strand board (OSB) for construction purposes.

It is a manufacturing standard only and contains no information on use of the case in package design, this is found in Def Stan 81-041 (Part 2).

It is pointed out that the suppliers of a case, that differs in construction from the specification described in this defence standard (including materials, fasteners etc.), must ensure that the case has been tested as fit for the purpose intended.
