This Defence Standard specifies both the materials and the manufacturing requirements for three styles of cases used for the packaging of Service equipment up to 200 kg mass.

It includes the use of either plywood, particleboard (oriented strand board) or medium density fibreboard for construction purposes.

It is a manufacturing standard only and contains no information on dimensional limitations or the use of the cases in package design, these are included in Def Stan 81-41 (Part 2).

It is pointed out that the suppliers of a wooden case, that differs in construction from the specification described in this defence standard (including materials, fasteners, lifting aids etc), must ensure that the case has been tested as fit for the purpose intended.
