This Standard specifies the requirements for the packaging of assembled open and shielded ball and roller bearings up to 20 kg mass and the component parts of such bearings supplied as spares or dismantled up to 2 kg mass to Military Levels P, N and J.

The packaging specified in this standard is based on a Primary Package Quantity (PPQ) of one bearing. When the contract or order specifies a PPQ greater than one, the Services Packaging Instruction Sheet (SPIS) shall follow the principles of this standard.

Note: For bearings that do not meet the scope of this standard, as noted above, or a Level H is contemplated then it is suggested that the technical aspects of MIL-DTL-197L “Packaging of Bearings, Associated Parts and Subassemblies” be considered; using Def Stan / BSI / ISO / CEN equivalent materials where applicable.
