This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for a SAE 10W-30 grade of lubricating oil satisfying as a minimum requirement API CH-4/SJ, (or equivalent ACEA grades), and Allison C3 plus Caterpillar TO-2. The oil is primarily for use as a crankcase lubricant in heavy-duty diesel engines. However, this oil should not be used on equipment with active EURO IV onwards emission control systems. It is also for use in some gearboxes, automatic gearboxes, torque-converters, hydraulic and power steering systems, and in gasoline engines of ground equipment. The oil is for use at ambient temperatures above minus 20°C.
