This Standard relates to expanded polystyrene mouldings for use in a variety of applications such as load spreading and shock absorbing. It covers five grades having nominal densities of 16, 24, 32, 64 and 80 kg/m', the higher densities having greater mechanical strength.

This Standard is intended for quality control, and Design Authorities should satisfy themselves that the quality defined herein, in conjunction with the relevant drawing, will satisfy the design requirements.

The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments, has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Director, Propellants, Explosives and Rocket Motor Establishment, Waltham Abbey Essex, EN9 1BP.

Type GP Mouldings are for applications other than those requiring type QX.
