This standard specifies requirements for high quality black butyl rubber mixes intended primarily for the manufacture of NBC over boots.

The designation ‘Type NBC' indicates that the quality of the material is such that, when correctly vulcanized, the material is resistant to penetration by biological and chemical agents. The composition of the mix is therefore closely defined (see clause 4).

Resistance to all biological and chemical agents in all environments, however, has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from: Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), Porton Down, Salisbury, Wilts SP4 0JQ.
