The materials covered by this specification are intended for the production of items such as sheets, mouldings and certain extrusions, mainly for fluid sealing applications where low compression set is of prime importance. They can be used in contact with heavy mineral and certain diester-based oils within the temperature range -65OC to 15O°C for continuous operation or 200°C for short intermittent periods, For applications in contact with air they may be considered also for use up to 250°C. They are unsuitable for use in contact with petroleum based fuels, light mineral oils or greases derived from them. They have excellent ozone resistance.
NOTE, At ordinary temperatures and it1 the absence of hostile environments, e:g. when properly stored, these rubbers deteriorate only very slowly. For most practical purposes the effect is insignificant and the storage life of silicone rubbers may be considered indefinite. However, the rate of deterioration increases markedly with increased temperature and the service life of a rubber therefore depends upon the operational temperature. Conversely, the maximuin temperafure at which a rubber ma-v be used depends upon the useful life required.
