PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This document forms part of a suite of documents which define National Grid's functional and performance requirements for new plant and equipment associated with electricity transmission.
This specification covers the requirements for optical cable incorporated into earthwires also known as optical groundwire (OPGW). This specification covers optical earthwires intended as a direct replacement for conventional earthwires on National Grid overhead lines where optical communications are required. Two sizes of OPGW are specified for use on overhead lines designed for 132kV, 275kV and for 400kV operation. Selection depends on tower strength
